First ever run for Milo Marathon

My girlfriend informed me that her co-workers will sign for Milo Marathon for 5 Kilometers and they are inviting us to join them. I immediately said "YES" who would not want to be part of the most prestigious running event in the country? Also, the registration was very affordable at 100 pesos you already have your bib number and singlet.

Before, I'm just hearing it from radio, TV and news ads but I didn't pay attention to it. Now, I'm curious on how to join the race.

Upon registration, all we need to do was train for the race. However, due to conflict of schedules from work, it was really hard for us to run. What we did was we signed up at Gold's Gym and maximized our free time from work and other duties.

We don't have a coach or training plan to follow which is a WTH we were doing? But since we have limited resources on money for a coach. We just had to use the thread mill and octane machine to improve our endurance and legs. Shortly, we used Youtube as other resource.

It became my routine at the gym whenever I have free time. I even started to walk from MRT Ayala station to Robinsons Summit Center where I work and vice versa.

Most of my colleagues can't believe and imagine of what I was doing but it didn't stop me from my workouts and took it as a challenge to do even more.

It was a love - hate relationship on my scheduled that I almost gave up on my training.

Until to the race day. We woke up late and needed to rush to the race site.

The weather was too gloomy and rain was about to fall. I was really ready to take challenge to go to starting line but my girlfriend hesitated to go further since the wave had started and the pathways were full of runners. Although I insisted to go at starting line, I never won on our argument and ended up to go with the flow up to the finish line. I really thought we started at 2 kilometer mark.

I was expecting Milo drinks along the route but all i can see were just Powerade and water. Oh what a newbie I was...

The route was wide but it was not enough for the wave of runners trying enjoy the run. Well, we have observed that there were several people represented by their schools and most who joined the event were walking and blocking the way of some fast runners. We were just a newbie and slow runners too but most of them didn't take the race seriously and we had to do zigzag run just to go beyond them.

We were almost at the finish line when we felt some droplets and when we were about to cross the finish line, the rain starts to fall. We just get our certificates and moved inside Mall of Asia to cover us from the rain.

Since we didn't start the race from starting point, i didn't bother to check the results. Will make up on the upcoming races.

Lesson learned; loot bags are only for longer distance, prepare for the rain and wake up early.

Run United 2 2012

After my failed first ever Milo 5K Marathon, I was hoping for another great run and be consistent with what I have started since April. Little did I know, my girlfriend has already joined 3K race early this year for Run United. I really thought that a race can only be held once a year. She just told me that Run United is a three part series organized by RUNRIO and UNILAB and they are offering the same distance as MILO which was pretty cool.

Quite a little pricey compared to Milo but it didn't stop us from signing. After signing in we had to wait for couple of days for distribution of race kits at Race Expo in BGC.

At the Race Expo, in less than 5 mins, I got our race kits and found a bonus belt bag.

At the race day, we had fun running the whole route. Hydration were everywhere and I drank too much of Powerade. We didn't finish fast but the experience was awesome.

I just really love roaming around the race village. So much freebies and games held by the sponsors.

Looking forward for another run in Run United 3

Just brought my life back

Few years back, I was just a drunkard, no sports to move my rusty body, no goals in life and just a happy go lucky guy. Everything was just normal, maybe just for me. At least most of us gets excited when you're with your friends and celebrating on random things.

With an average of twice a week, I'm on a drinking session with my fellow co-workers, friends or cousins. It had to be my priority whenever someone induced me to drinking even though I have a shift the next morning or in the middle of shift (takas lang). Until some instances got in to worse and noticed my body started to deteriorates.

I got several escalations at work, I went beyond my way home and woke up on the terminal of bus, vomit on random areas, peed unconsciously, mismanaged my finances, my beer belly gets bigger and bigger. After all, it was really not the ideal life for me.

April 29, 2012 when i realized I need to change my lifestyle. It was not an easy task but I need to change something if I want different results.

I must have admit that my first fun run, I was freaking traumatized. I was too cocky to run that 5 kilometer stretch in BGC without training or had an active lifestyle.

It took me more than an hour to finish it with several muscle cramps and joint pains. After all, it was fun with lots of foods in your loot bag. Back then, it was the 1st  Robinsons Fit n Buddy run with a very cheap price of 250 per person including its race kit.

That Sunday midnight April 29, 2012, I was still enjoying my ice cold beer at Tanza, Cavite while my girlfriend was trying to catch up her energy for fun run organized by Hyundai. I really thought she would pass the event since we are in family gathering but I was wrong. Crazy it was but we still pushed through at the event even though i didn't sign up for the race.

We only commute from Cavite to Quirino Grand Stand which I thought we wont be able to start the race. Good thing we took the cab and was able to catch the race. We were in the last wave of that event. I was really hesitant if i can finish race since my first fun run was hell experience and i can still feel the been on my nerves.

First kilometer along Roxas Boulevard was good since I was just following my pace. It was her first 5K run without training but were able to support each other until the end of race.

Cramps and side stitches were our hurdles in running fast pace. Several marshals were there to give bottled water and banana. A good relief for us but the water was not cold.

The last kilometer was like both of us hitting our walls and we were sweating rapidly but it didn't stop us to finish the race.

Finally!!! We finished the race with too much sunlight on our skins. It took us 46 minutes to finished it. Not bad for a second time on the race. Well, not official race for me since i didn't sign up.

After the race, both of us felt great and really enjoyed the event :) The experience was reciprocal to my 1st ever race and felt like i can still run for few more kilometers.

However, the event is almost done when we finished the race so went to the nearest fast food and eat whatever we want to regain our lost energy.

I was too sleepy when we finished our breakfast but the experience we had would definitely start of something good for us.

Melvin Macatiag is no longer with Typecast

For anyone asking why Melvin is not part of Typecast anymore, please read below.
He was fired from Typecast for physically abusing his wife.

Ana Estela Corazon Concepcion, we're proud of you & we're here to support you all the way.
I’ve seen a lot of misperceptions and assumptions floating around since Typecast announced that they were parting with their drummer, so I felt compelled to speak. If anyone’s wondering why things went down the way they did, this might help clear up some things.

Melvin Macatiag did not leave the band, which seems to be what everyone is thinking. He was asked to leave because he physically abused me.

While I am not interested in listing the specifics of my experience here (that’s something that I will do in court: see RA 9262) or exactly how the conversation between him and the rest of Typecast went (it’s their business and they will talk about it if and when they are ready), the above article bears striking parallels to what it was that led to his termination.

I have stayed silent on this matter, because what I have gone through and still am going through is/was embarrassing, humiliating, and painful. However, I can no longer stand idly by when there are all these false assumptions going around about Typecast’s motives and reasons for terminating their drummer. I am breaking my silence because they had my back when I needed them and they should not be questioned for doing the right thing.

I’ve come to realize that I do not need to be embarrassed about having endured and survived physical abuse. I am grateful to Steve, Pakoy, and Chi for doing what they did and for realizing before even I did that what happened to me was not my fault. Women should not be expected to silently endure physical abuse from their partners, and I owe it to my parents, brothers, relatives and friends who supported me (Typecast only being a few among the many friends who have reached out to me) and to all women out there who may have experienced this to speak out. Most of all, I owe it to myself to acknowledge that, yes, what I went through was horrible. But I am so much stronger now for having survived it.

So the lesson here is:

Girls, we have to take care of ourselves and each other. Speak up. Don’t put up with abuse from anyone, because you are worth so much more than that.

And, guys, don’t hit girls, and don’t just shrug it off or look away when you see a girl or woman being abused. If you justify your inaction by saying it’s none of your business, just ask yourself, “What if it was my mom or my sister or my daughter or any of my other female loved-ones being knocked around? Would I still ignore it?” The answer is (or at least should be) no. So you need to speak up and protect your loved ones if they are incapable of protecting themselves, just like Typecast did.

This is the bravest thing I have ever done, but I feel it is necessary to say something to clear the air since Typecast is being asked questions that are not theirs to answer.

xx
Ana
